Sample Alien Registration Receipt Card
This alien identification card was first introduced in 1946. It had
had a green tinge and so became known popularly as a green card, which is a name that
has stuck through later versions, none of which has had a green color since 1959.
The alien registration receipt card did not have to be replaced unless the recipient was under the age of 14 at
the time of issue or the card was lost or stolen.
As of 1996, the alien registration receipt card is no longer valid for any purpose.
The Alien Registration Receipt Card was replaced by the Resident Alien
Card.
Starting in 1997, the resident alien cards were replaced by
the modern Permanent Resident Alien Card.
