Sample Certificate of Naturalization
A naturalized citizen receives a certificate of naturalization from
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after the oath of citizenship
is administered at a naturalization ceremony. Such ceremonies are held
periodically. Until the oath of citizenship is administered, an approved
naturalization application is subject to revocation, for example, in the
event of discovery of a disqualifying criminal conviction.

If you are seeking naturalization, or your application for naturalization
has run into difficulty, or you believe that you may have difficulty applying
for naturalization and want to schedule a confidential consultation, please
contact Messing Law Offices to schedule an initial
consultation.
A sample without photograph and signatures appears below. The certificate
also has a watermark that can be observed when it is backlit as a protection
against forgery, as shown in the second image.
Effective September 30, 1997 via interim rule published at 62 Fed. Reg.
51001-51006, the Certificate of Naturalization and the very similar in
appearance Certificate of Citizenship are no longer valid for employment
verification even though they evidence citizenship. A U.S. Passport is
valid for employment eligibility purposes and can be obtained on the basis
of a Certificate of Naturalization by applying to the Department of State
for one. Many local post offices and courthouses act as agencies to obtain
passports. Click here to view a sample US passport.
An earlier version of the certificate of naturalization was issued
by the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Department of Justice prior
to the creation of the Citizenship and Immigration Service of the Department of Homeland
Security. It is almost identical as to appearance and watermarks except as to the
issuing agency.
